Dental restorations or as commonly known as “fillings” is a procedure used to fill a cavity, or a hole in the tooth. The need for this procedure is when you have a decay or tooth loss due to trauma.
At DAK, using the strongest tooth coloured filling material available, we are able to restore function and aesthetics of the original lost tooth structure.
It can vary, but they are mainly made of glass particles, synthetic resin and a setting ingredient.
Composite fillings are tooth coloured and are made from powdered glass, quartz, silica or other ceramic particles added to a resin base. We will choose a shade to best match your own teeth.
After the tooth is prepared, the filling is bonded onto the area with an adhesive and a light shone onto it to set it.
With this type of filling, the dentist may have to remove less of the tooth, which is obviously better.
Yes.
Over long periods of time the filling material microscopically shrinks, This causes bacteria to leak underneath the metal filling usually causing decay.
The decay cannot always be detected with dental x-rays because of the radiolucentsy of the amalgam restoration.
If there were decay present underneath a old metal filling and it remained undetected and untreated it will cause more problems over time.
Replacing lost tooth structure from an accident or trauma can usually be done simply with a dental restoration.
Dr. Tingey uses many shades of tooth coloured filling material to match in perfectly with your present teeth.
The same technique is used for replacing existing old restorations.
